What I love to wear in the kitchen ♡

Do you wear an apron when you cook? I almost always wear my apron in the kitchen!! Why do I wear it? A part of the reason might be because I always make a mess when I cook, but the main reason is because I feel very motivated to cook when I wear it.

My sister asked me to make one for her some time ago, but I hadn’t done it until very recently when I had made up my mind. Yes. Let’s make an apron for my lovely sister!!!

I am a very beginner with the sewing machine so that I can’t do anything fancy or complicated… So, I’ve decided to imitate one of the simple aprons from my apron collection.

The image of the apron I’d like to make has been decided, using pink dots fabric as an accent.

◎IMG_8857

Okay. Let’s start! First, to cut the flower print fabric. As you can see, I used my apron as a pattern.

◎IMG_8859

I was so lazy that I just folded the fabric in the center and cut them together. Now, I have the symmetric fabric 😀

◎IMG_8860

Here, the sewing part begins. I started with the tiny parts, to make pink dots’ strings.

◎IMG_8861

The most complicated part in this apron was probably the neck part…?

◎IMG_8876

Then, after working on it little by little, my apron is done!!

◎IMG_8886

I hope my sister will like this apron, and this will make her cooking time enjoyable!! 😀

◎IMG_8894

Wow… sewing is a lot of fun and I can see a lot of potential!! I have a lot of things to learn on it but I’m looking forward to exploring a lot more with my sewing machine ♡

Add colors around your wrists :D

Today, I’ve hosted my first workshop in 2015 😀

Our theme was to make wrapped bracelets!! What we had to do was really simple, just to wrap beads around a cord, but it wasn’t so easy to choose a leather cord, strings and beads. How you put them together makes a big difference!!

We had fun working on those tiny beads.

SONY DSC

Today’s tea-time was a cup of tea (“BOSTON” from HARNEY&SONS) with “green-tea rolled cake” and “black sesame pudding”, which I made!! I’m so happy when my friends like my sweets 🙂 Those are our family’s favorites for now 😀

IMG_9072

After 4 hours of concentration, my 3 students had finished making their own bracelets!
Brown leather x brown & gold beads. This is gorgeous!! I think the choice of brown has added a feminine atmosphere.

IMG_9071

Black leather x black & brown beads. It goes well with her style. It’s simple but somehow deep because of the combination of two colors, I think.

SONY DSC

Beige leather x white pearl & turquoise blue & wood color beads. This is absolutely cute!! I’d love to wear it especially at around the beach 😀

SONY DSC

Here, everybody together!! It’s interesting to see how things becomes different just by the choice of colors!! One of the best things about “hand-made” is that we can choose the color, I think.

I hope my lovely friends have enjoyed making them 😀 ♡

Hello Kitty Cake ♡

I baked a cake today for my birthday friend 😀 She and her daughter loves Hello Kitty, so I thought to surprise them by making a very cute cake!!

I’d love to introduce my quite healthy Hello Kitty cake. I mean “healthy” by not adding any artificial color to make it. Okay, please let me show you how I’ve done it 😀

First, bake a sponge cake. You can use whatever recipes you like. Once the sponge is done, you will wait and let the sponge chilled since it is much easier to cut them when it’s cold.

Let the sponge chill for a while

Then, slice the sponges into 2 to 4 layers. Also, you will cut the sponge’s outline as the face of Hello Kitty. You don’t have to be so nervous about this 😀

◎Step1-IMG_8902

On each layers, spread a whipped cream and put some fruits, and make layers. I used lots of sliced strawberries since my friend’s daughter loved them 🙂 You’ll also cover the top and side of the cake nicely with the cream!

◎Step2-IMG_8903

Now, the most important part is to put eyes, nose, whisks and the bow!! I’ve used sliced strawberries to make a bow. For the eyes and whisks, I used chocolate. (Precisely speaking, I had ganache at home, so I just used them by shaping them nicely by pushing and rolling them.) For the nose, I’ve used a chestnut.

◎Step3-IMG_8908

Now, Hello Kitty is ready to be eaten!!!

◎Step4-IMG_8910

Maybe you will try to make one for your friends or for the party you’re planning? 🙂

◎Step5-IMG_8911

I’m sure it will brighten up the atmosphere and people will love it 😀
I hope you will enjoy making this cute cake ♡

Happy New Year 2015 :D

It’s been a week since the new year, 2015, has started!!! But, better late than never!! So, here I say, “Happy new year!! Hope everyone who visit my blog will have a wonderful and adventurous year in 2015!”

I am so glad to share this with you… On the very end of 2014, one of my free patterns got ranked in “Top 20 Free Crocheting Pattern” on Craftsy!!

Craftsy-Top20_Free_Crochet_Pattern-2014_12_30

This is a small achievement, but I hope I will achieve something more in 2015 😀

Ranked in Top 14!!

Happy creating something cute for your loving people ♡

Christmas cakes!!

Recently, I noticed that Safeway had a quarter gallon size of heavy cream… you know, this is the time to bake some at home for your family and friends 🙂 So, I bought this big container 😀

Huge!! Whipping cream

Well, now I have a lot of heavy cream, so why don’t I bake some Christmas cakes?? 🙂
Here is what I’ve made for this Christmas 😀

Christmas!!!

Just in case, if you are interested in how to bake them, I’m introducing the rough procedures.

First, whip the egg white and make meringue. Add sugar and egg yolk, and mix them very well. You can see if it is enough or not by putting a tooth pick on the center. If the tooth pick doesn’t fall down, it’s ready.

merengue

After adding some flowers, bake them in the oven. Then, the sponge cake is done.

sponge!

This time, I wanted to slice the sponge into 4 sheets, so I had to let them cool down so that it’s going to be easier to be cut.

Let the sponge chill for a while

After slicing the sponges into 4 sheets, place one of them in a bowl.

Cut a sponge and put them in a bowl!

Then, add some fillings in the bowl.

Put stuffing.

I made some layers so that we can enjoy some flavors in one bite, by putting raspberries, cheese-cream mousse and blackberries.

Making some layers.

Then, cover the bowl with another sheet of sponge. Now all you have to do is wrap them with a plastic wrap and let them chilled in the fridge.

Covering the bottom part

Now, it’s done 😀 After decorating the outside, it will look professional 😀

Done

As a decoration, I made “strawberry people”. The face is made with apples.

Our christmas cake is done!!

This is the second cake with the matcha (green tea) creams (before finishing the decoration though) !!

Now, all the decoration is done! I quite like the roses made of apples.

More decoration done!

Merry Christmas!! Happy baking for people you love ♡

Christmas decoration !!!

Ho ho ho—
I love Christmas as many others do 🙂 It’s full of happiness and love!!

This year, I’ve decided to make my own Christmas wreath to decorate my house. Oh, I just had to spend a lot of hours to think of the design, color combination and many others. But here I now have this!!! Ta-da!!!

christmas wreath

Then, I thought of hanging it to my wall, but I wanted to put more Christmas items. So, I’ve decided to make a Christmas banner.

And now, finally, I have my Christmas decoration inside my house!! It’s just a small corner of the room, but this is my favorite place in my house now 😀 ♡♡♡

Taking it from a little bit below…

I’m super happy that my room has a lot more colors now!! That cheers me up 🙂

Shop craft items in Europe and Japan!!!

It’s been quite a while since I last posted a blog. I was on my honeymoon in Europe, and then went back to Japan for a month, so I was away for almost 2 months!!

I have several handmade items that I would like to show in this blog, but first, I want to show some of the items I got while I was away. I thought you would be interested in those craft items 😀

[Barcelona, Spain]

We visited a flea market called “Mercat Del Encants” at Plaça de les Glories Catalanes. There were hundreds of shops in the area!! Maybe you can feel how it was like from the picture below!!

Market

Spain is famous for its leather products, so I could find some recycled leather shop.

Leather shop

Here, at this market, I got this leather!! I don’t know what I can make out of this, but I will probably try making something small 🙂

Leather

I also got these cute buttons at the market. That will be cute to make accessories for kids or baby clothes? I can even paint them colorfully, and use them to make something for myself 😀

In Spain

[Nice, France]

I once visited Paris, and also southern part of France, and I really liked the southern part of France!! So, I was thinking to visit the south sometime again! And here, we came to Nice!!

Nice was a lot different from where I visited in the south before, but I liked it 🙂

I looked for a craft shop on the internet and then I found “La droguerie“. We had to walk for about 30 min to get there, but it was nice walking in the town.

france

The building was cute. We stepped inside… there was a colorful world, spreading in front of my eyes… Cute!!

france

You can get as many beads and buttons as you want!! The display was also nice.

france

I got those small beads there! I wanted to buy more things but I just couldn’t pick… Out of time!!

In France

[Yokohama, Japan]

So, I was in Japan for a month. I visited “Kiwa seisakujo” where I bought several items but I’ve already used some of them… I also should have taken some pictures to introduce you the atmosphere, but I forgot to do since it was just so familiar to me… Maybe next time!

What I can show you are these. Very thin chains in black and pink. Aren’t they pretty? I thought I would make a necklace, but I still haven’t made up my mind… I don’t want to waste them, so I really have to think carefully!!

In Japan

I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at some photos of beautiful items from abroad!! I will update when I made something out of them 😀

Crochet Coaster Workshop with babies!!

I’ve had another workshop on making coasters and I’ve got many cuties today!!
They look really cute, but I guess the little babies’ world isn’t so easy either…!! Ouch, the smallest one is crying…!!

Babies world isn't so easy

Mommies had so many tasks to do at the same time… learning crochet skills, taking care of their babies and enjoying talking!! What multi-talented ladies they are!!!

Working with babies

Creating things by yourself is really fun 🙂 Slowly but surely, you are making something just by making knots one by one.

Having fun!

Sometimes, there is the moment when nobody talks and everyone is just concentrating on their works…!! I love the chatting but I love the completely quiet moment as well!!!

Having fun!!

Hemp is a difficult material to work on, so we needed to take a break 🙂

Sweet autumn

Then, finally we’ve made them !!!

DONE!!!

Aren’t they beautiful?? As Audrey Hepburn once said “I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls” ♡

Well done, ladies :D

Creating something by hand with your love can bring you a lot of happiness!!! If you have some spare time, why don’t you try to be happier with what you do? 😀 I hope tomorrow will be another happy day♡

Coaster Workshop – Mastering basic crochet skills :)

I held a crochet workshop and we made coasters with jute. Jute is a kind of difficult materials to work with, but I love the outcome!!

Working...

Everyone worked so well!! I’m glad that everyone mastered how to work on a circle. Can you see that she is calculating stitches and making her own patterns?

Working but talking as well

Filled with laughter, we enjoyed crocheting, chatting and drinking cups of tea 🙂

Enjoying girls' time

We worked for almost 4 or 5 hours!

More work...

Then, we’ve got them!!!

DONE!!!

Well done, ladies ♡♡♡

Great jobs!

Tassel workshop!!

Upon my friend’s request, I hosted a tassel making workshop today 🙂

You can make many things with tassels. You can make accessories, charms and napkin rings!

Napkin ring

The first step is to chose colors. The color combination is really important! I prepared many options for them 🙂

Step 1. Chose strings.

My ladies worked really well!! I introduced a little bit of crochet techniques, chain stitches.

How we worked.

Here are one lady’s works. Quite simple but elegant 🙂

My friend's tassel

Another lady’s works. Colorful!! I like how she used beads as well 🙂

My friend's tassel

The other’s. Gorgeous!!

My friend's tassel

Then, I also tried some new materials… How do you think? 😀 I used a yarn from Italy!!!
My friend said it came out cute, but my husband didn’t like this one… 😦

My tassel

I enjoyed seeing how people use colors and combine parts!! I really had a good time 🙂

Now summer is almost gone and a cooler season is coming… I guess making tassels can be a good way of spending your free time 😀

My memorable first customer for bow earrings ♡

I’m super happy to announce that I’ve delivered a set of earrings to my first customer ♡

She saw me wearing the same earrings sometime ago, and asked me to make the same one for her!! She is really an active person and busy with her private life as well as with her business, so we couldn’t find time to meet over a cup of coffee almost for one month… and finally!! TADA!!! They are in her hands now ♡

My first customer ♡

We talked about so many things and it was really fun 🙂

She’s working as a personal color advisor, so if you’re interested in knowing yours, just be brave to contact her 🙂 Here is her blog ♡

Let me put some pictures of the earrings…

Lately, I’ve been in love with making accessories. I’ve found out how exciting to play with colorful beads and wires is!!
This was one of the main reasons why I was a little bit away from blogging though… 😦 Ouch!!

This is what I designed for myself… It was my first time to wear something that has my name on!! I am really happy to wear them 🙂

I also had my hair cut shorter recently ♡ How do you think?? 😀

Crochet Cafe♡ Hair Bow – part 2- :)

On Friday, I held a crochet workshop for a different group of ladies 🙂

Our theme was the same with the last crochet cafe, “hair bows”. This time, it’s all started with one facebook message which I’ve got from a lady. She wrote to me that she wanted to make a hair bow for her 1-year-old daughter! How nice ♡ I liked the idea ♡

Everyone chose their favorite color of yarns, and we started working on it.

Sometime it was silent

After working for a while, we took a break. It’s been very hot these days, but we had a hot tea 🙂 Hot drinks work well both physically and mentally. We chose “SOHO” by Harney and Sons this time. I really like the flavor ♡ The sweet flavor always makes me relax 🙂

Yum ♡

I had prepared healthy treats the day before the workshop. Can you notice the bow shape on the cakes??

Ribbon Cakes

We enjoyed the relaxing break time ♡Today's treats :D

After the tea break, we knew more about each other. I could see that everyone looked so relaxed and enjoyed working on crochet as well as chatting ♡

Girls' talk :)

Three out of five ladies were moms. So, there were cute little ones!! How cute!! They looked enjoying exploring around the room! 😀

Kids likes exploring!!

Doesn’t she look like Virgin Mary…?? ♡

Virgin Mary

After working, we got bows!! From the back 🙂

TADA---

TA-DA—!!! From the side!! I like this posing ♡

TADA---

One lady made two bows while some others were still working on their first one !! Super fast!! One is a hair band, and the other one is a barrette 🙂 I like them both ♡

2ways of hair bow

Her color coordinate was excellent!!!

Nice color combination ♡

“Say cheese ♡”

How do they look? ♡

I like this picture 🙂 Maybe they are talking like this… 🙂

*Girl: “Yeahhhhh ♡ I’ve got my own hair bow which my mom made with lots of love in!!”
*Boy: “Mommy, where’s mine??”

We came up with the idea of making a bow tie for baby boys, so I hope he will get his bow sometime soon 🙂 ♪♪

Happy ♡

I’m now super happy that my friend had sent me a message on facebook!! Without that, I was probably doing something different that day and I might have never met her…!! We had so much fun together and I hope to know more about each other 🙂 ♡

My friend's work :)

I’ve learnt that when you think of something, it’s really important to take an action no matter how small it is. The small action makes the big difference in the end. Do you know that you will actually get bigger feeling of regret when you didn’t do “the thing” compared to the feeling you get after you did it. It’s easy not to take any actions and just to see how it goes, but if you are thinking about something, I think you should do it.

With the one step, you will be one step closer to your dream 🙂 ♡ Grab your chance and be happy ♡♡♡

Let's make a bigger anchor with crochet :)

I spent quite some time to create this bigger anchor crochet pattern. If you like a smaller and simpler pattern, you can try to follow the pattern I uploaded in another article earlier. Today, I can finally share the pattern with you and I’m quite happy with that 🙂

I’ve decided to make this pattern because I’ve got a request to make a bigger anchor pattern which fits on a baby blanket. (I’m so happy to get some feedbacks, so I was really happy to receive a request ♡ ) If you follow the instruction below and use size H hook (5mm) and medium weight yarn, the size of the finished work would be around 17cm x 17cm (6.7 inch x 7.6 inch). Of course, you can use whatever crochet hook you have and whatever yarn you would like to use! 🙂

This is how I use the applique. It looks good on my crochet bag 🙂 ♡

Good on a summer bag

This time, the instruction will look slightly complicated (but not so difficult to follow), so I made a diagram to explain the pattern. I also wrote how to proceed the pattern in the picture just next to the diagram. For those who don’t like reading symbols, I will also explain in words. My tutorial “step” numbers are synchronized with the numbers written in the picture below. Well, let’s get started 😀

French night :) NatsuRina Kitchen – Vol.1 ♡

I’ve celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary today 🙂

I can’t believe that it’s already been a year passed since our wedding day!! We had really a good meal in the city, and I hope to spend this wedding anniversary filled with love, happiness, laughter and joy for ever with you 😀 ♡

Thank you for being such a wonderful husband to me 🙂

Wedding anniversary

A few days ago, I and my good friend cooked together for our husbands. Our theme was to cook something we didn’t cook very often and to make our husbands surprised and impressed 🙂 ♡ We secretly planned our meals, and cooked everything on the day !!!

We cooked al lot!!! This is my friend, steaming the shrimp mousse 🙂 I had so much fun to cook with my friend, but we were a little bit stressed to set up everything by the time our husbands got back home … 😦

We cooked a lot

After cooking everything except for the main beef, we prepared the table 🙂 We also prepared paper fans for guys since it was extremely hot that day!!

The table setting

The place card. Inside the card, I put short “thank you” messages to my partner 🙂

Place card

This was the menu for the day!!

Menu

Here we go!! “Mousse of green vegetables and shrimps”. Everyone got amazed how good it tasted!! 🙂
Can you notice that we poured a little bit of love on the plate? Actually the guys didn’t notice… maybe look closely on the plate around the left-top corner? 🙂

Appetizer 1- mousse

Bagna cauda dip with assorted vegetables and shrimps. The anchovy did really a good job!!! Yummy 🙂

Appetizer 2- Vegetables

Asparagus soup. There were lots of asparagus, onions and celery in it. Healthy and tasty!!

All those appetizers went really well with a bottle of white wine 🙂

Soup

Then, for the main dish, we prepared beef steak!! Of course, we had a red wine with the meal 🙂

Main

Then, we had a dessert plate 🙂

We prepared mille-feuille!! We placed a little bit of carrot jelly, ice-cream and peach aside. We had a cup of coffee and tea 🙂

Dessert

The night was brilliant!! We, the chefs, enjoyed cooking and tasting all the dishes and the boys looked enjoyed our meals with nice bottles of wines 🙂

We did French dinner, so maybe we’d try some other nationalities’ dinner and make our husbands surprised again 😀 ♡

Crochet cafe♡ Hair Bow :)

Today, I held a crochet workshop at home 🙂

I called it “crochet cafe” because I wanted all the participants to feel relaxed with some cups of tea and sweets and have fun while working on crochet 🙂

Our theme for today was hair bows. The first task for everyone was to chose yarn. This is one of the fun parts 🙂

We chatted a lot but sometimes we were completely quiet… making lots of knots 🙂

Brown's date by the sea

As some of you might have expected, my little Brown has finally got his girlfriend, Cony, a rabbit.

Cony on the boat

To celebrate the birth of this little couple, I decided to let them join in my family trip to Monterey, California. They look excited to see the big ocean for the first time in their life. I think they’ve got quite surprised to see how big the ocean is!!

The ocean is great

Let me share how their date went and also how beautiful and exciting Monterey is!!

At the port, we saw many sea lions. Here are some…

Sea lions

Together with many of them in their back!! Say cheese 🙂

With sea lions

We saw many sea lions and seals there. What’s the difference between them? I’ve learned that if you found ears on them, they were sea lions. If they didn’t have ears, then they were seals 🙂

After exploring the port, we joined whale watching tours!! We got on a boat. They look quite excited about it!! Of course, all of us were excited!!

first date of Brown and Cony

While waiting for the departure, they were posing for a picture … do you think they are imitating the famous scene of Titanic??

A couple on the boat

Wooooow!! The boat ran really fast!!

The boat is running!!

After running for 1 hour, the boat stopped… what’s there??

What's this?

Here it comes!!! A whale!!! The whale appeared out of nowhere. We found some more whales and dolphins 😀 ♡

Wow!

To be honest, I got seasick 30 min after the departure, so it was a nightmare for me… For the rest of 2.5 hours, I couldn’t enjoy it… but I got some fantastic pictures!! So I’m satisfied with this journey. I think the little couple had so much fun on the ocean!!!

watching the sea

Then, we visited another must-go place in Monterey. Can you find them in the picture?? 🙂 ♪♪

Great aquarium

I was so excited because I didn’t have to get seasick to see the marine creatures!!! 😀

Sea otters. I think I saw some on the bay as well. But to see them just close to me… it was wonderful. They were so cute!!!

Say cheese!!

It seems they were quite tired after seeing so many new things to them!!! Sweet dreams 🙂 ♡♡♡

Sweet dreams!
